What is the best time to dive in Casa Cenote ?

Regarding the ideal season, the dry period from November to April is often considered the recommended season for cenote diving.

The weather is pleasant, rainfall is rare, and underwater visibility is optimal.

However, summer reveals another side of the cenote. The heat and humidity, combined with regular rain, promote the decomposition of fallen leaves in open cenotes like Casa Cenote.

This creates a thin acidic film on the surface rich in tannins which transforms the appearance of the water.

Under the effect of the sun this layer about 1m thick takes on spectacular shades tones of yellow orange and green blend on the surface of the clear water. A surprising visual phenomenon that changes throughout the day and makes each dive unique.

Where is Casa Cenote and how can you get there ?

Casa Cenote is located about 12km north of Tulum, in the Quintana Roo region of Mexico. It is situated very close to the beach of Tankah Tres, along the Caribbean coast of the Riviera Maya.

To get there by car, if you are coming from Playa del Carmen, the drive is about 56km following route 307 south along the seaside.

The 1km walk after the entrance is relatively easy, even with equipment or as a family, which makes it a practical and pleasant excursion for all types of visitors.

On site, you will find a few basic facilities including restrooms and a restaurant just across from the site, perfect for grabbing a meal after swimming or diving.

Another more affordable option is to take a colectivo, these local minibuses that run frequently between Tulum and Playa del Carmen.

You just need to ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance of the road to Tankah Tres. From there, it takes about 10 to 15min of walking to reach the cenote.

Casa Cenote prices ?

The entrance fee to Casa Cenote, often included in the prices of dive centers, is around 150 pesos, which is about 7 USD depending on the exchange rate.

For a first dive at Casa Cenote, you should expect to pay around 3200 pesos, which is about 166 USD, for two dives of approximately 45 minutes each.

Transportation from Playa del Carmen, diving equipment, and some snacks are included.
