At first glance, Cenote Angelita might go unnoticed, just a simple circular pool hidden in the dense jungle.
Yet, according to divers who explore this impressive cenote, many rank it among their top five dives of all time.
Deep, mysterious, and rarely crowded, Angelita offers a striking immersion in a raw and preserved environment, suited for the most experienced divers.
There are no flashy tourist facilities here, only nature, water, and the dizzying sensation of descending into the unknown.

Why is Cenote Angelita so popular among divers ?
Cenote Angelita is especially popular among divers for several unique reasons that make it a truly extraordinary experience.
At around 27m deep, there is a thick layer of hydrogen sulfide that forms a real “cloud” or “underwater river,” separating the freshwater from the denser saltwater below.

This natural phenomenon, known as a halocline, creates a spectacular visual effect. Divers pass through a thick, cloudy layer that feels like entering another world.
The distinct smell of sulfur enhances this strange and surreal sensation, making the experience both visual, sensory, and truly unique.

Below this layer, the scenery becomes even more surprising. Submerged dead trees, rock formations, and stalactites emerge in a silent, otherworldly atmosphere.
The filtered light from the surface enhances the mystical feel of the place, often compared to the setting of a fantasy film.

It requires strong technical skills, confidence in deep water, and solid self-control to fully enjoy this extraordinary experience.
But for those who venture in, it is both powerful and unforgettable.
